European day of Birdwatching
The ecological network Pannonica, together with the Tourist Organization of the Municipality of Bečej, this year, for the first time participated in the international action of European weekend dedicated to the observation of birds. It was coordinated by the Society for the Protection and Observation of Birds of Serbia. The field guides were members of the Society of Falconers of Nature Falco from Temerin. The action was attended by 10 of our members and 10 guests - this was a sufficient number to hold the activity, but not to upset the birds too much.
The action lasted for 4 hours and on that occasion, we managed to see and record the presence of 24 species of birds and over 8000 individuals of the three most numerous species (node, fox, seagull). During the action, we had the opportunity to see and discover the amazing scenes of bird migration that leave Europe this week, flying to their winter resorts in Africa.
The aim of the action was to teach people more about birds, their lives, migration, and the need to protect them and their habitats.
We recall that a scientific study published by Birdlife International this year showing 25 MILLION migratory birds are killed annually around the Mediterranean, as if they were not troubled by the exhausting path to Africa, among which, a hostile Sahara is waiting for them on their way Flown even twice a year.
This weekend's action has been organized in 33 locations in Serbia.
On European birdwatching day on Ribnjak, Bečej
An official report was received on the results of birdwatching for the European Weekend, which was held on 3 and 4 October 2015 in Europe, Serbia and Bečej. The action was realized in 32 locations in Serbia. The census, again, showed that Becej fishpond is one of the biggest bird habitat in Serbia (in Serbia).
In terms of the total number of species we are in third place behind 2 fishponds (Jazovo and Novi Kneževac). Although, we must admit that we stayed at Ribnjak for only 4 hours, and there are those who have started this campaign from early morning (in other habitats).
In these 4 hours 37 species of birds are seen. The approximate number of copies seen is about 11,500! In the table you can see which types are seen and the number of seen copies.
It should be said that the number of birds in each habitat is fluctuating. They leave, they come, some nest, some are in flight, so that no one is the same number. It is interesting that only 9 large cows (cormorants) were seen on this action, and we have counted hundreds of them in winter! They will return when the time comes for them. All in all, there are a lot of birds that we need to know and to be proud of. Do not forget that 37 species were seen during this short stay.
The official number of species recorded on the Becej Pond is 183, and the expert's assessment of the terrain is that this habitat is visited or is breeding over 220 species of birds on it!
In order to get to know each other, each species seen is accompanied by an appropriate photo.
The regular number of birds in the photos corresponds to the order in the table.
